In the current era of rapid technological development, innovation is considered crucial for a stable and knowledge-based economy. Serbia has been quick to realise this and in 2011 launched “The Innovation Fund” to promote innovation in the fields of science and technology.

The conclusion of the “Youth at the Forefront of European Policies“ conference held in Belgrade Youth Centre, was that young people should get involved in decision making process.
The EU-funded project worth over EUR14 million, aimed at improving the living conditions of refugees, internally displaced persons, and returnees under the agreement on readmission is officially being launched. Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport said that since the year 2003 the EU has granted EUR60 million for the housing of refugees. Together with Serbian officials, he visited the collective centre in Pančevo, followed by his visit to the site of future building for housing of forced migrants, whose construction is financed from IPA funds 2012.
Both the public bodies in charge with public health and pharmaceutical industry should make substantive efforts to master challenges on harmonisation of regulatory framework for pharmaceuticals and medical devices with EU standards. This was concluded by an expert group that analysed Serbian regulations’ compliance with EU ones, within the PLAC project.
Unlike most children of her age in Belgrade, Milica goes to a school, which is three kilometres from her current home. Sometimes the regular minibus doesn’t pick her up and then she walks to the nearest public bus stop, one kilometre away. Milica lives in a mobile settlement in Resnik, with her three siblings and parents.
The EU Delegation has held information sessions about the “Support to Social Inclusion of the Most Vulnerable Groups, Including Roma, through More Diversified Community-based Social Services,” informing the potential applicants about the procedure of application and other details.
Creating an inclusive society is among EU’s priorities when it comes to supporting Serbia and this will remain so in the future, said Luca Manunta Programme Manager of the EU Delegation to Serbia, speaking at the first information session about the call for proposals within the “Support to the social inclusion of the most vulnerable groups, including Roma, through more diversified community-based social services” project.
In the framework of EU-funded cross-border project Development and Promotion of Health Tourism in cross-border area Serbia – Bosnia and Herzegovina (CROSS SPA), a gym within the Specialised Hospital Čigota has been renovated, whilst new health tourism programmes have been announced and are being included in the regular tourist offer.

Recently launched twinning project Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), funded by the EU through pre-accession funds, will gather experts from several EU Member States to help Serbian state authorities building capacities for fighting against counterfeiting and piracy.

EU has funded the Project “Prevention and Protection Children from Violence in Sport” that resulted in a Protocol aimed at establishing mechanism for protections of children from all forms of violence in sport as well as strengthening of educational role of sport in developing positive social values in children and youth. The Protocol was created by Serbia’s Child Rights Centre and Ministry of Youth and Sports.
