Senior KLA officials face indictment, probe findings consistent with the CoE report: Williamson

Chief Prosecutor of the European Union Special Investigative Task Force (SITF) Clint Williamson said that his team had found compelling evidence to file an indictment against certain former senior officials of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). Investigative findings are largely consistent with the Council of Europe (CoE) report of 2011. Indictments will be filed once an judicial mechanism is established to host a fully independent, impartial, transparent and secure trial.

EU project improves primary and secondary schools and education in Serbia

Funded from the EU’s IPA funds with eight million euros, “Razvionica” project aims to enhance the professional development of teachers and update learning, thus enabling pupils to make a better use of their knowledge. Training for teachers will be implemented in more than 40 primary and secondary schools across Serbia and by September 2014, these schools will have been equipped with new teaching tools with the average value of 100.000 euros.

Organic farming: latest brief shows rapid growth of sector

In the last decade, both the number of organic farms and the area dedicated to organic farming have grown by 50 percent or more. Organic area in the EU increased by about 500 000 hectares per year. As a result there are more than 186 000 organic farms across Europe, cultivating an area of 9.6 million hectares according to the latest Brief on organic farming published by the European Commission.

Foreign Affairs Council debates Ukraine, Middle East developments

The EU Foreign Affairs Council expressed shock and saddeness over the crash of the Malaysian Airlines Flight in Ukraine, calling the separatist groups in the area to ensure full access to the site. It agreed to accelerate preparation for new sanctions against Russia. The Council also discussed recent developments in the Middle East, urging the sides for an immediate cessation of the hostilities.

EU representative in Kosovo to assess the condition of the Mitrovica bridge

The working group of Belgrade and Pristina in charge with issues related to the Mitrovica bridge would continue working on a joint way forward in the coming weeks, while at a July 22 meeting in Brussels the two sides agreed to the EU Office in Kosovo’s technical assessment of the condition of the Mitrovica bridge as a first step, High Representative’s spokeperson said in a statement.
