Seven new houses built in Obrenovac by European Union

Seven families from Obrenovac who lost their homes to May floods, were given keys to their new houses, built and furnished thanks to EU funds. Apart from the reconstruction of primary and secondary schools, renovation of over 100 houses and other assistance, the EU also finance the construction of another two houses in Obrenovac, due for completion by the end of 2014.

Lithuania joins eurozone on in 2015

The countdown has started: on 1st of January 2015 Lithuania will join eurozone and adopt the euro as its currency. The European Commission proposed in early June and the European Council and the parliament approved that the country was ready to introduce the joint European currency from the New Year.

European Union reconstruct houses and donate furniture to families in Smederevska Palanka

EU Ambassador to Serbia Michael Davenport and Serbian government Office for Reconstruction and Flood Relief Director Marko Blagojevic visited three EU-funded households, reconstructed after being damaged in the May 2014 floods. They also delivered furniture and appliances to these families. Through its EU Assistance for Flood Relief programme, European Union have allocated some 350.000 euros to finance the reconstruction and construction of 23 houses, and provide support to three enterprises and some 700 agricultural producers in Smederevska Palanka.

High school students depict Europe on 2015 European PROGRES calendar

First prize in the art contest titled “Get to Know Europe” for 2015 European PROGRES calendar went to Sofija Jelic, a student of “Pivo Karamatijevic” Grammar School from Nova Varos. “Artworks featured in the calendar teach us about Europe and its richness of various cultures,” said European PROGRES Manager Graeme Tyndall.

New Facility on Mt. Goc to be completed soon

Final construction works of the new building of the Belgrade Faculty of Forestry, which is located on the mountain Goc, 30km west of Kraljevo and about 200km from Belgrade, is underway. On an area of 1,200 square meters on four floors – a brand new building intended for forestry students, high school students, researchers, as well as nature lovers was built. From the donation of European Union in the amount of one million EUR – about 800 thousand EUR have been invested in construction of new facilities, and approximately 200 thousand EUR for the purchase of furniture and modern scientific research equipment.

EU Council discuss investment plan, Ukraine situation

At its last meeting in 2014 the EU Council called for a European Fund for Strategic investment – aimed at mobilising EUR 315 billion — to be set up by June, giving a green light to European Investment Bank to start working on its part as early as of January. Having found the situation in Ukraine “dramatic and dynamic ” the EU leaders sent a strong signal of their readiness to send a financial support to Kiev.
