European Mobility Week launched in Serbia

European Mobility Week (EMW), campaign promoting sustainable urban mobility in cities across Europe, running from 16-22 September, was launched in Belgrade under the motto “Our Streets, Our Choice” in Tasmajdan Park with the participation of elementary school pupils and winners announcement of “Green Ideas for Our City” art contest, organised by the EU Delegation to Serbia, EU Info Centre and Secretariat for Transport of the City of Belgrade.

High school graduates ‘grilled’ AmbassadorDavenport on EU issues before leaving for Brussels

Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport held a farewell meeting with a group of 24 high school graduate students from central Belgrade’s schools ahead their EU-funded study trip to Brussels. Given an opportunity, the young scholars “grilled” Davenport about wide range of EU issues, from Scotland referendum and policy on Ukraine to Serbia’s EU integration and required reforms in judiciary, agriculture and economy.

EU condemn murder of British aid worker, vow to fight terrorist groups

The European Union condemned the murder of British aid worker David Haines, expressed condolences to his family and friends and vowed to continue efforts fighting terrorist groups that endanger global stability, the spokesperson said in a statement. Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Respond Kristalina Georgieva said she was shocked with the murder and urged for protection of relief workers.

COELA members visit Serbia

During their first visit to Serbia, 10-12 September, members of the the EU Council’s Working Party on Enlargement and Countries Negotiating Accession to the Union (COELA) met top Serbian officials and visited Pancevo and Novi Sad, venues of some of the ongoing EU-funded projects.

European Mobility Week: Our streets, our choice

European Mobility Week 2014 aims to re-evaluate the way we think about urban space and to explore the relationship between land use and quality of life. This year’s slogan, “Our streets, our choice”, encourages people to create the city that they want to live in. European Mobility Week is organised on September 16-22 each year. Serbia marks it with a youth drawing contest “Green Ideas for Our City”, whose winners will be awarded during the mobility week.
