Chapter 27 within the EU accession negotiation, concerning ecology, is among the most demanding and most expensive ones, and Serbia is faced with a “bumpy” road when it comes to harmonisation with the European standards, said the participants of the “Environment towards Europe” conference, held at Belgrade Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of World Environment Day.

Serbian police have made a significant progress in increasing the number of uncovered illegal immigrants, given that it detected 6790 illegal immigrants during the first quarter of 2014, whereas throughout the last year they detected as much as 8570, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport said.
The European Union has granted more than EUR2,3 million to social welfare and health care institutions, civil society organisations, and local governments in Serbia, that took part in the call for proposals on “Support to deinstitutionalisation and social inclusion of persons with intellectual disabilities and mental health problems.”

Among numerous EU Member States’ teams sent to Serbia to help flood fighting and join relief efforts, there are water purification units from France and Germany that provide drinking water to inhabitants of Svilajnac, Ćuprija and Obrenovac.
The European Commission has taken note of OSCE’s remarks and worries regarding Serbia’s online censorship claims and will continue to closely monitor the situation, Peter Stano, Spokesman of European Enlargement Commissioner Štefan Füle said.

On Saturday, May 31, Prva TV starts broadcasting series “Europe, hell yeah!” co-produced by the EU Delegation to Serbia and Monte Royal Pictures production company. Each of the 26 episodes informs viewers on a certain aspect of EU integrations and Serbia’s adjustment to this process, but it also points out to Serbia’s values on its way to the EU.
This week, representative offices of Germany, Hungary and Bulgaria were venues of the “Open Doors” event, within which the EU Member States’ embassies host students and high school pupils, bringing them closer to the countries they represent.
