Events within this year’s European Green Week
May 26 and 27- “Green Industrial Policy Conference” organised by German-Serbian Initiative for Sustainable Growth and Employment
Implementation of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, de-carbonisation, increase of renewable energies and CO2 reduction are the main focal areas of our engagement. German development cooperation via GIZ supported Serbian partners establishing the “Industrial policy Strategy 2020-2030”. Hence, the logical progression is shaping this strategy into a Green industrial policy. Integrating aspects such as circular economy and green financing.
From May 26 to May 28- Mikser Talks at Mikser Festival, Belgrade
Mikser festival 2021 will take place from 26th to 28th of May 2021 at Zornica Kuca, Barajevo. Through three days of networking in nature and exchange between diverse actors of society, the Festival aims to re-launch creative capacities and direct them towards agendas for better air, cleaner water, healthier cities, circular economy, gender equality and solidarity, sustainable design and recuperated culture.
The successful cooperation between the Mikser festival and the Delegation of the European Union in Serbia continues during the 2021 Festival, with the organisation of two panel discussions: Green Agenda for the Balkans (26th), which will examine the achievements of the Serbian and regional economy in monitoring and implementing The European Green Deal; and the Green Recovery Study (28th), looking at increased demand for green finance as Serbia progresses towards an inclusive, circular economy with low carbon emissions.
In addition, the exhibition “Natura 2000 in the frame” will be displayed during the festival, showing the best photographs received during a photo-competition organised by the EU-funded project “EU for Natura 2000 in Serbia” in cooperation with the Energy Portal.
May 26 – Green Agenda for the Balkans
The panel examines the achievements of the Serbian and regional economy in monitoring and implementing the European Green deal, how far we are from the standard, how many resources we will have to invest in this green transition, as well as what we can expect from this process.
May 28 – Green recovery study, presentation
Demand for green finances will certainly increase significantly in Serbia as the transition to an inclusive, circular economy with low carbon emissions takes place. Despite the fact that the kovida-19 pandemic has recently led to the postponement and reduction of the share of green investments, this development will guide both the policy of action and the market.
May 28 – The Climate Change Caravan
The climate change caravan is a project designed by the French Institute in Serbia in 2018, developed this year in partnership with the Centre for the Promotion of Science and the support of the European Union Delegation to Serbia and the United Nations Development Program in Serbia.
By connecting the fight against climate change and the protection of biodiversity, Climate Caravan 3.0 strives to reinforce citizens’ awareness of the importance of knowing and identifying protected species on the territory of Serbia. This edition of the project consists in a pedagogical exhibition presenting the audience with different global consequences of climate change directly impacting biodiversity (melting ice caps, rising temperatures, ocean acidification, extreme weather events such as wild fires). The exhibition presents invasive species, alpine habitat, wetlands, and urban biodiversity and presents ways to contribute to conserving biodiversity. The projects also includes interactive models designed by the Center for the Promotion of Science, as well as interactive exhibits made on purpose for an active implication of the youth in the fight for biodiversity protection.

From the 28th of May, in the Nature Conservation Center of Vojvodina, in Novi Sad ( a ‘Social Network Corner’ designed by the United Nations Development Program in Serbia. A selection of relevant French short movies, subtitled in Serbia, is also available to the audience.
From the 5th of June, the exhibition will be shown in the streets of Obilicev Venac, Stari Grad, Beograd

May 30, Petrovaradin Fortress cleaning and underground tour in cooperation with Erasmus Students Network Serbia
Members of the Erasmus Students Network from Novi Sad will organize an action in cooperation with UGRIP organization with an aim to clean the Petrovaradin fortress and its underground tunnels from all of the garbage that has accumulated at the sight of this Cultural-historical monument. Besides the cleaning, this event also has the goal to raise the awareness of, before all, young people about the pollution and environment protection, as well as about the necessity of preserving cultural historical heritage.

This event highlights the multiple links between the quality of our environment and the health and well-being of European citizens. A significant proportion of the disease burden in Europe continues to be caused by environmental pollution resulting from human activity.

June 2, 2021, Online- Conference “Towards clean air in the Western Balkans”
Online session, gathering various stakeholders, dedicated to air pollution from coal combustion and decarbonisation in the Western Balkans, and organised in collaboration with the European Environment Agency, Joint Research Centre and the Directorate-General for European Neighborhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations
Air Quality is one of the main health and environmental concerns in the Western Balkans. The process of accession of these countries imposes the approximation with the EU acquis in the area of environment and climate change, among others.
This is a major challenge and at the same time an opportunity to improve not only the serious pollution situation in the Western Balkans but also to help the neighboring EU member states to achieve their objectives in the area of air quality management. In this regard, the ambitious Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans (9 billion Euros) connected to the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans could be a key instrument for the sustainable development of this region.
The focus of the session will be on the air pollution from coal combustion and on the policies that are – or could be – planned or implemented to decarbonise the region for better air quality and healthier lives.

June 3, 2021, Beograd- Bicycle ride for World Bike day
World Bicycle Day will be celebrated under the Branko’s Bridge, next to the bicycle elevator, on Thursday, 3 June, from 16:00 to 18:00, in the presence of delegates of the Association for Cyclists, the United Nations, the EU Delegation to the Republic of Serbia, and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Recreational bike riders, anyone commuting on a bike or riding a bike to school will have a chance to have their bikes serviced. And while they wait to have their tyres inflated or brakes fixed they will be in for Dutch pancakes and will be handed out a manual entitled “Cycling in Belgrade.” Switch to bikes, this is the message of World Bicycle Day. This event aims to promote a healthier and more eco-friendly mode of transport, as well as to raise public awareness of bike safety.

June 3, 2021, Niš- Openning the exhibition „Nisava – sustainable river future“ / Nišava – održiva budućnost reke
The exhibition “Nisava – sustainable river future” indicates the mutual influence of human activity and the river Nisava, which reflects not only the quality of public health, food and life of the inhabitants of Nis, but also the entire Black Sea basin where Nisava flows. Ten bilateral panels show how Nisava affects the lives of Nis and Nis habitants. The last segment of the exhibition refers to the future of the river, and points to the importance of wastewater treatment as a significant chance for the recovery of the most important natural resource we have. This also announces a wastewater treatment plant in Nis with a sewage system. Serbia, the EU and Sweden will implement this investment together.
June 4, Presenting results of project EU for NATURA2000 in Serbia, Botanical garden, Belgrade
Serbia will celebrate the European Natura 2000 day on 4th June at the Belgrade Botanical Garden, with presentations of the recent developments and results of the EU-funded Natura 2000 project in Serbia.

The implementation of the Birds and Habitats Directives in the Republic of Serbia
The identification of the Natura 2000 network in the Republic of Serbia, Natura 2000 project
Biodiversity data management, fieldwork activities and mobile app “Terenska”
Premiere of the Natura 2000 project movie
Presentation of the updated Natura 2000 national website
Best photographs from the Natura 2000 photo-competition will be displayed during the event.
June 5, World Environment Day educational bicycle tour in Novi Sad
EU Info Point Novi Sad, in cooperation with association Eko Kurir, will organize an educational bicycle tour to mark the World Environment day 2021. This bicycle tour will, besides promotion of zero pollution transport and healthy life styles, include a lecture at the Šodroš Dunavac wetland site, held by a professor of biology and ecology, about the significance of preserving natural habitats and all of the plant and animal species living in the immediate proximity of the city. The tour will take place alongside the EuroVelo6 international bicycle corridor.
