“It is with indignation and deep sadness that I have learnt the news about the brutal murder of Boris Nemtsov, the former Deputy Prime Minister of Russian Federation, former Governor of Nizhny Novgorod and one of the leaders of Russia’s liberal opposition. He was killed just before a demonstration against the effects of the economic crisis and the conflict in Ukraine which he was organising for 1 March.
The latest terrorist attack on a kosher supermarket in Paris, in which four people were murdered, is a grim reminder that violent anti-Semitism is still alive. Seventy years after the Holocaust, there are Jewish communities in Europe that again feel threatened, High Representative for Foreign policy and Security issues Federica Mogherini said in a statement on the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The rehabilitation of three infiltration lakes which provide water supply to 15,000 inhabitants of Trstenik is completed. This included removal of the mud, regulation of the banks and placement of new layers of filtration sand. This intervention was funded by the EU with some 192,400 Euros. As the part of the standard procedure, the Public Utility Company “Water Supply” now has to obtain three positive findings of the consecutive chemical analysis of the water samples before including lakes back to the system.
Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, spoke on the phone today with the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Serbia’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić. They discussed in particular the ongoing crisis in eastern Ukraine, the need for full implementation of the Minsk agreements and the concrete measures the EU can take to support the challenging work of the OSCE.

The Stabilisation and Association Committee (SA Committee) held its second meeting following the entry into force of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) between the EU and Serbia on 1 September 2013. Representatives of the Republic of Serbia and of the European Commission reviewed the implementation of the Copenhagen EU accession criteria and the implementation of the SAA. The fruitful exchanges allowed for the reviewing of key reforms which are being pursued first and foremost for the benefit of the citizens of Serbia.
In its resolution passed on Tuesday, the committee welcomes the new Serbian government’s commitment to the European integration process and its constructive approach to relations with its neighbours. The accession process must nonetheless be more inclusive and transparent, it says.
High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini held a phone conversation with the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the situation in Ukraine.
Head of the EU Delegation in Belgrade Michael Davenport said 12th Belgrade Dance Festival “brings the world to Serbia and sends a positive image of Serbia to the world”. Each year, the Festival heralds the arrival of spring through music, joy and dance. The manifestation facilitates convergence between European and other nations and cultures and unites our countries in diversity, Davenport said at the press conference at the National Assembly of Serbia.
