Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport closed the EU’s stand at International Book Fair and handed Letters of Appreciation to partners – European Integration Office of the Government of Serbia, National Library of Serbia, EUNIC, Tempus Office, and Belgrade Fair.

Brochure “Growing Together” about the most successful EU-funded projects in Serbia was presented at EU’s Belgrade Book Fair stand; also, a film about EU’s assistance during and after floods was screened, whereas, in the afternoon debate, publishers discussed EU’s support for their publishing projects.
Presentation of Europeana.eu web portal, debate on the means in which Erasmus alumni may contribute to society reform and debate “Serbia on EU cultural map” with participation by laureates of European Literature Award Ugljesa Sajtinac and Jelena Lengold will be held Friday, 31 October, at EU’s stand within International Belgrade Book Fair.
In the last two years, European Union donation worth 30 million euros supported the modernisation of infrastructure in 27 faculties in all five public universities in Serbia, according to the closing ceremony of the EU HETIP project, held in the Rectorate of the University of Belgrade.
The EU Ambassador Michael Davenport and Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić marked the beginning of the reconstruction of private houses in the Village of Jamena, Šid. This will include the construction of 13 houses (five prefabricated and eight solid), the reconstruction of 22 private houses (including material and works), basic furniture and appliances for all houses. The reconstruction is funded through the EU Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia Programme with some 560,000 Euros.
Following seven rounds of gas negotiations moderated by Günther H. Oettinger, Vice-President of the European Commission, Russia and Ukraine have reached an agreement on a 4.6 billion dollar winter package that will secure gas for Ukraine and ultimately for Europe, the European Commission said in a statement.
Traditional School Day within the Book Fair, Thursday, 30 October, was organised at EU’s stand as well, with visits from pupils from Obrenovac and Nis, while the issue of SEE region as a common market for publishers was discussed by Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian and Montenegrin publishing houses’ managers.
Without a quality education overcoming economic crisis is impossible, Director of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education and Culture Jordi Curell told the conference “EU higher education programmes: their role and effects in Western Balkans.”
EU have allocated 620.000 euros for the renovation of facilities damaged during the floods, compensation of damage in agriculture and recovery of agricultural production in the Municipality of Sid, as well as the construction of 13 new houses and reconstruction of additional 22 in the village of Jamena that belongs to the municipality, said Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport visiting this village, severely hit by May floods.
