Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva arrives in Serbia on Tuesday to talk about the next steps in providing assistance, added Ambassador Davenport.

The European Union is ready to financially support Serbia in order to help those affected by floods, but it was necessary to define specific needs, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport said Sunday at Rex Cultural Centre where he handed in a personal and the EU Delegation-staff donation.
Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport said late on Friday that EU assistance to floods-hit Serbia was to arrive in the coming hours.

The EU Civil Protection Mechanism has been activated upon the request of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina yesterday evening due to severe flooding that has affected large areas of both countries. High capacity water pumps and expert teams which operate them are urgently needed in Serbia, while Bosnia and Herzegovina has called for helicopters and motor boats to evacuate people and to transport water, medicines and food.
A European Union Civil Protection Team has arrived in Belgrade to assist the Serbian authorities in their response to the wide scale flooding. The main task of the team is to support the coordination of the incoming assistance from the EU. They will be working closely with the Sector for Emergency Management in the Ministry of Interior, local rescue agencies, and the United Nations.

Projection of the Italian film Oscar-winning foreign language film “The Great Beauty” opened the third Europe film festival on Friday organised by the EU Delegation to Serbia, the EU Info Centre, EUNIC, and Dom omladine.
Serbia has made a significant progress on its EU path in past year, said Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport, adding that EU integration process in Serbia will bring changes to citizens, economy, and the society as a whole. Talking to students and representatives of civil society, Davenport said this particular process requires engagement of the whole society, including civil society organisations.
