New members join Team Europe

Eleven experts from throughout Serbia joined on Wednesday, May 14 the Team Europe that marked first anniversary of its work and discussed various methods in which experts from different fields can bring Serbian citizens closer to the idea of European integrations and the EU accession process.

Young people from 12 countries in EU Spring School 2014 in Belgrade

“EU Spring School 2014” youth exchange has been successfully completed in Šuplja stena near Belgrade. Sixty young people from 12 countries, both EU Member States and the region, spent eight days (3-10 May) learning about the EU structure and institutions, youth engagement and active role in decision-making processes, as well as about the concept of European citizens’ activism.

Bosnian film director Tanović to receive EU ‘Prix MEDIA’ at Cannes

The Oscar-winning Bosnian director Danis Tanović is the winner of the 2014 European Union ‘Prix MEDIA’, awarded to the best new film project eligible for support from the Creative Europe MEDIA programme. Tanović will receive the award from Androulla Vassiliou, the European Commissioner responsible for culture, during a ceremony at the Cannes Film Festival in France on Saturday 17 May.

Ecofin ministers ask Serbia to speed up fiscal consolidation, reform public sector

European Union Economic and Finance Ministers have asked Serbia to speed up strengthening of its fiscal consolidation, reform the public administration and pension system, inviting the authorities to address the problem of non-performing loans, complete restructuring process of state-owned enterprises and reduce subsidies and state guarantees, said Head of the European Integration Section of EU’s Delegation to Serbia Freek Janmaat.

EU Council adopts the Guidelines on Freedom of Expression online-offline

The EU Foreign Affairs Council on May 12 adopted the EU Guidelines on Freedom of Expression online and offline that provide a comprehensive compilation of definitions, covering all aspects of the freedom of expression right , including the right to hold opinions without interference, the right to seek and receive information and the right to impart information and ideas of all kinds through any media and regardless of frontiers.

Davenport in an interview with FoNet: Unsatisfactory state of media

An important point of the EU-Serbia negotiations will be respect for human and minority rights, both ethnic and LGBT rights, says Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport. He expressed support to the new media laws, but said that an overall state of media was “unsatisfactory” and some of the phenomena were very unpleasant and unacceptable.
