Civil society organisations are important interlocutors of European Union and some of them have proven to be highly reliable partners in many EU-funded projects, said Head of the Political Section of the EU Delegation to Serbia Luca Bianconi.

Just like Serbia, all of the EU Member States are facing discrimination, but campaigns and various training can contribute to reducing discrimination, said Head of the Political Section of the EU Delegation to Serbia Luca Bianconi, stressing that the EU will continue to support the Office of the Commissioner for Protection of Equality.
Following its 2011 Strategy for the Danube Region, the EU, together with the Austrian Development Agency, has been financing with 19.5 million euros a project called “Socio-economic Development of the Danube Serbia Region.” The project helps Serbia to promote private investments, create jobs and attract foreign investors through infrastructure development, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport said at the opening of the Third Danube Business Forum in Belgrade.
European Union is Serbia’s most active donor, specially in the area of inclusion of Roma into society, their education, employment, healthcare, housing and legal rights, said Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport at the Workshop on Political Inclusion of Roma.
The reconstruction of private houses and construction of new homes in most municipalities included in European Union Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia should commence by the end of October 2014. This will include provision of construction material and manpower and construction of new houses for more than 520 vulnerable families. The completion of this intervention is expected by December 2014 – January 2015.
Due to great interest for the current call for proposals for partnership projects between local self-governments and civil society organisations aimed at strengthening the vulnerable social groups in South East and South West Serbia, European PROGRES extends the deadline for call for project proposals until Friday, 14 November at 16:00.
European Union consigned one million euros to the Municipality of Svilajnac for the reconstruction after the May floods, said today EU Ambassador to Serbia Michael Davenport following his visit to kindergarten “Dečja radost” in Svilajnac, whose reconstruction was financed by the EU, as well as a visit to families that will obtain new or reconstructed homes thanks to EU funds. Davenport has also attended the signing of the agreement on EU assistance with local farmers.
An Android app “Europe to go” has been created and launched under the project “’Europe to go – raising youth awareness on European Union and process of European integration.”
The EU-funded assistance for flood relief continues as planned in order to help as many people from affected areas as possible to prepare for the forthcoming winter. In addition, the reconstruction of the lower level of Agricultural and Chemistry School in Obrenovac is successfully completed on Friday, 17 October 2014.
