The European Union will make humanitarian funds immediately available to Serbia, so as to meet the basic needs of people affected by floods, whereas during the reconstruction phase, the country will be able to apply for unused pre-accession funds, and the EU solidarity fund, in case the damage costs exceed EUR175 million, the EU Commissioner for international cooperation, humanitarian aid and crisis response Kristalina Georgieva said in Belgrade

The European Union Civil Protection Team is continuing to assist the Serbian authorities, and Interior Ministry (Sector for Emergency Management) International department. The team is working very closely with colleagues in the Interior Ministry Sector for Emergency Management and UN.

Following the European Union Civil Protection Team’s arrival in Belgrade to assist the Serbian authorities, they are now integrated into the Interior Ministry (Sector for Emergency Management) International department.

The EU Commissioner for international cooperation, humanitarian aid and crisis response Kristalina Georgieva has arrived in Belgrade on Tuesday to visit the flooded areas, and talk to Serbian officials about further steps and priorities regarding the EU assistance available to Serbia.

EU member states continue providing all the assistance Serbia needs, in order to rescue its citizens from flooded areas, protect the property as much as possible, and repair the consequences.

EU Civil Protection Team members are engaged in water drainage of Nikola Tesla thermal power plant (TENT) and open pit mines, Deputy Head of the Team Michael Felfernig said Monday.

The European Union is proud to be the part of this great rescue and flood combating action conducted by Serbian government, and will surely stand by Serbia in these difficult times, said Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport after visiting Obrenovac together with ambassadors from 60 countries. Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva arrives in Serbia on Tuesday to talk about the next steps in providing assistance, added Ambassador Davenport.

The European Union is ready to financially support Serbia in order to help those affected by floods, but it was necessary to define specific needs, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport said Sunday at Rex Cultural Centre where he handed in a personal and the EU Delegation-staff donation.

Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport said late on Friday that EU assistance to floods-hit Serbia was to arrive in the coming hours.

The EU Civil Protection Mechanism has been activated upon the request of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina yesterday evening due to severe flooding that has affected large areas of both countries. High capacity water pumps and expert teams which operate them are urgently needed in Serbia, while Bosnia and Herzegovina has called for helicopters and motor boats to evacuate people and to transport water, medicines and food.
