Browsing: EU Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia

The European Union is the biggest donor for flood relief in the Republic of Serbia as it has thus far made available more than EUR150 million through its Solidarity Fund and pre-accession assistance instruments in the aftermath of May 2014 floods. EU assistance has so far reached more than 60 000 citizens in 32 towns and municipalities through projects of construction and reconstruction of houses, rehabilitation of public buildings, as well as support to farmers and small businesses.

International donors’ conference for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia after the floods

Under the motto “Rebuilding together”, the European Commission will host a donors’ conference in Brussels on 16 July to mobilise further support to Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the aftermath of the recent floods. The aim of the conference will be to collect pledges from donors for the countries’ recovery. The conference will also contribute to stepping up co-operation over floods and natural disasters in the region, as well as operational coordination. The conference will be co-organised with France and Slovenia.

EU-funded ‘Cross-border Flood Protection and Rescue’ project implemented during May floods

The project “Cross-border Flood Protection and Rescue” which was funded by the European Union ended on April 14, 2014, only a month before worst floods that hit Serbia in a century. The activities that were released during the project, found their practical purpose during the catastrophic floods which affected Serbia.The beneficiaries who were participants of this project, actively took part in the rescue.
