Browsing: EU Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia

The European Union is the biggest donor for flood relief in the Republic of Serbia as it has thus far made available more than EUR150 million through its Solidarity Fund and pre-accession assistance instruments in the aftermath of May 2014 floods. EU assistance has so far reached more than 60 000 citizens in 32 towns and municipalities through projects of construction and reconstruction of houses, rehabilitation of public buildings, as well as support to farmers and small businesses.

More than 3,700 agricultural producers will receive barley, peas, red clover and Lucerne by the end of February, while another 3,700 farmers will receive maize seeds in March 2015. This will be the timely support for the spring cropping season, which will aim the largest group of agriculture families receiving support through the EU Assistance for Flood Relief Programme. At the same time, more than 120 farming families in Serbia will receive small agriculture equipment such as ploughs, mowers, tillers etc. during next two months.

he EU Ambassador Michael Davanport marked the completion of the reconstruction of the Elementary School “Jovan Jovanović Zmaj“. 43 families in Bela Palanka and Kladovo to get home

As many as 43 families – 27 in Bela Palanka and 16 in Kladovo – will soon move into new homes thanks to the EU-funded project “European Union Support for Improving the Living Conditions of Forced Migrants” that is a part of a more comprehensive programme aimed at improving living conditions of forced migrants titled “For a Better Life”, worth a total of EUR14.2 million.

Fifty-four houses in Obrenovac, Krupanj, Svilajnac, Varvarin, Paraćin, Gornji Milanovac, Bajina Bašta, Šid, Smederevo and Mionica have been constructed, while 682 flood affected homes have been rehablitated in Obrenovac, Krupanj, Kraljevo, Lazarevac, Svilajnac, Trstenik, Varvarin, Valjevo, Mali Zvornik, Ljubovija, Šabac, Bajina Bašta, Šid, Loznica, Smederevska Palanka, Velika Plana, Čačak, Ub, Koceljeva, Jagodina and Paraćin.
