Browsing: EU Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia

The European Union is the biggest donor for flood relief in the Republic of Serbia as it has thus far made available more than EUR150 million through its Solidarity Fund and pre-accession assistance instruments in the aftermath of May 2014 floods. EU assistance has so far reached more than 60 000 citizens in 32 towns and municipalities through projects of construction and reconstruction of houses, rehabilitation of public buildings, as well as support to farmers and small businesses.

Danish Refugee Council ready to launch EU-funded reconstruction works of flooded areas

Within the European Union program supporting recovery of floods affected areas in Serbia, Danish Refugee Council (DRC) facilitates the reconstruction of 170 individual housing objects affected by recent floods, the installation of 14 prefabricated units, the provision of 184 basic household appliances and furniture sets for the most vulnerable households, as well as the reconsolidation of 54 business activities of small and micro enterprises (with the co-applicant Eneca) in seven targeted municipalities.

Davenport to deliver EU assistance, tour reconstruction sites in Obrenovac

Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport will visit Obrenovac on Wednesday, 10 September 2014, and together with top representatives of the Serbian government deliver the EU assistance to farmers, followed by a visit to reconstruction sites where the flood rehabilitation works has been taking place within the programme of EU’s assistance to flooded areas in Serbia.

Farmers in Trstenik receive EU agricultural assistance to flood-affected farm households

EU and FAO officials delivered in Trstenik European Union assistance to 469 small-scale farms and total of 150 metric tons of animal feed as the first part from 8-million euro worth EU agricultural assistance to flood-affected Serbian farm households. Farmers in Trstenik were among the first to receive the EU assistance, as trucks carrying animal feed reached the town.

EU-funded housing reconstruction and economic revitalisation starts in another eight municipalities

The three-million euros EU-funded project entitled “Provision of housing reconstruction and economic revitalisation to most vulnerable flood-affected families in Serbia”, financed from the EU Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia, begins in September in eight municipalities of the western Serbia. Citizens of Sabac, Sid, Bajina Basta, Loznica, Mali Zvornik, Valjevo, Ljubovija and Osecina hit the most by floods will get renewed homes, but also the chance to relaunch their businesses.
