Browsing: EU Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia

The European Union is the biggest donor for flood relief in the Republic of Serbia as it has thus far made available more than EUR150 million through its Solidarity Fund and pre-accession assistance instruments in the aftermath of May 2014 floods. EU assistance has so far reached more than 60 000 citizens in 32 towns and municipalities through projects of construction and reconstruction of houses, rehabilitation of public buildings, as well as support to farmers and small businesses.

EU flood relief assistance weekly update

The reconstruction of private houses and construction of new homes in most municipalities included in European Union Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia should commence by the end of October 2014. This will include provision of construction material and manpower and construction of new houses for more than 520 vulnerable families. The completion of this intervention is expected by December 2014 – January 2015.

EU provides 1 million euros to support reconstruction and building of houses in Svilajnac

European Union consigned one million euros to the Municipality of Svilajnac for the reconstruction after the May floods, said today EU Ambassador to Serbia Michael Davenport following his visit to kindergarten “Dečja radost” in Svilajnac, whose reconstruction was financed by the EU, as well as a visit to families that will obtain new or reconstructed homes thanks to EU funds. Davenport has also attended the signing of the agreement on EU assistance with local farmers.

EU flood relief assistance update

The EU-funded assistance for flood relief continues as planned in order to help as many people from affected areas as possible to prepare for the forthcoming winter. In addition, the reconstruction of the lower level of Agricultural and Chemistry School in Obrenovac is successfully completed on Friday, 17 October 2014.

EU and Davenport honoured by Municipality of Trstenik over post-flood assistance

Head of the Delegation of European Union to Serbia Michael Davenport was awarded the highest municipal recognition – Ljubostinja Rosette – on the occasion of Day of the Municipality of Trstenik. He was awarded this prestigious recognition for an outstanding contribution in coordination of organisations engaged in providing assistance to the Municipality of Trstenik after May floods.

EU flood relief weekly update

The tendering procedures for construction and reconstruction of private houses in flood affected areas included in European Union Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia Programme will be launched and advertised in the week of 6 October 2014. After the best offers from construction companies are selected, the reconstruction is expected to start by the end of October 2014. Reconstruction of schools as well as support to agricultural households is also underway.

EU and FAO start delivery of wheat to flooded areas

Delivery of wheat seeds and fertilisers for autumn sowing has started in Osecina, intended for 100 agricultural flood-damaged households. Seeds and fertilizers are distributed by United Nations Organisation for Food and Agriculture (FAO) which is in charge with implementation of project aimed at supporting agricultural producers under the European Union Assistance for Flood Relief in Serbia programme.

EU flood relief weekly update

The European Union has continued to provide relief to May’s flood affected areas in order to help people recover as much as possible ahead the forthcoming winter. Through EU Assistance for the Flood Relief in Serbia Programme and its partners, thousands of Serbian families will receive aid starting from next week, in addition to those who have already received it.
